Tourgee family moves to Kingsville, Ohio

The farm was 1-1/2 miles north of Kingsville OH, and Tourgee's father remained at that location until his death in 1889.

Tourgee's uncompromising independence motivates him to seek solace away from his strict foster mother, and he moves to Lee, Massachusetts in 1852 to live with an uncle for 2 years. He returns to his family in Ohio around 1854.
